Close To Home

Kevin was born in 1957 and raised in the small town of Nazareth, Pennsylvania. He is the middle child and only artist in an otherwise traditional family. His mother sang beautifully from her heart, and Kevin set out to paint that way. His father was a chemist— from him he gained the mind for process and quest to learn about the nature of colors. Following this passion never felt like a choice.

As a painter, he always pushes further with careful observation and then the abandoning of what becomes familiar. He continues to blur the lines between representation and abstraction.

There are times to paint about everything in the world around him, and times to paint only with pure expression. He can lose himself in a landscape up along the river, or find stillness working with familiar objects in his studio. Lately he’s been using old photographs to inspire paintings about memories of his family.

For nearly 3 decades Kevin has lived in Philadelphia. Close To Home is a selection of recent paintings that celebrate being aware as we share our lives in this neighborhood.
